Herman Vanover 80 of Plattsburg Missouri died Thursday May 7, 2026, at his residence. Born on October 11, 1945, in Cincinnati Ohio to Ray and Amienee (Perkins) Vanover. Herman was a high school graduate and a Veteran of the United States Army. Herman retired from the United States Postal Service after 39 years of service. He also owned Vanover Plumbing, Heating and Electric and served the Plattsburg community from 1973 until his retirement in 2024. He loved to bowl, hunt and fish, but most of all he loved playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Herman was a member of the National Letter Carriers Union.
Herman married Kathleen McLenon in Effingham, Kansas on July 29, 1967. They shared 58 loving years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Amy Vanover, brother Robert Vanover; three sisters Rayma Vanover, Norma Jean Vanover and Glenna Thomas.
Survivors include his wife Kathy of the home; daughter Shelly Vanover of Plattsburg Missouri; son Matthew (Amy) Vanover of Springfield Missouri; his grandchildren Tye Grayson, Taylor Kavanaugh, Lucy Vanover and Rachel Vanover. Four great-grandchildren Maverick, Tytain, Isabelle and Presley; his brother Ernest Vanover of Cincinnati, Ohio and a host of nephews and nieces.
The family will gather with friends from 1-3pm on Saturday May 16, 2026, at the Bailey Cox Family Funeral Service, Plattsburg Missouri. The family suggest memorial gifts to the Gathering Place (Plattsburg Senior Center) Plattsburg Missouri. Online obituary and guestbook at www.baileycox.com
