Georgie Ann (Whitsell) Sellers

Georgie Ann (Whitsell) Sellers, 82, was born and raised in Hamilton, Missouri. She spent most of her life in Belton, Missouri, before moving to McKinney, Texas, in 2021 to be near family. She passed away on July 20, 2026, in McKinney, Texas.

 Georgie was born on July 28, 1943, in Caldwell County, Missouri, to Kermit and Mary Jane (Hosman) Whitsell. On June 3, 1962, she married Virgil “Ed” Edward Sellers. Together they shared 58 years of marriage, raised their son, Mark Edward Sellers, and eventually made Belton, Missouri, their longtime home.

 Georgie graduated from Penny High School in Hamilton, Missouri, with the Class of 1961. An outstanding student who consistently earned the highest marks, she was also an accomplished performer, receiving recognition and awards in acting, public speaking, and dramatic reading. She also demonstrated a talent for singing, although she seldom drew attention to it.

 After graduating from high school, Georgie attended Central Missouri State College alongside her fiancé, whom she later married. Between 1961 and 1963, she completed the college's Secretarial Science program as she and Ed began building the life they would share together.

 Horses were one of Georgie's lifelong passions. In the 1970s, she began taking riding lessons, and she and Ed later purchased an American Saddlebred, “The Commander of Missouri”, affectionately known as Wilbur, which she successfully exhibited in both fine harness and three-gaited classes. An accomplished seamstress, Georgie even designed and sewed some of her own show attire, combining her creativity with her love of horses.

 Although bluegrass music was unquestionably Ed's passion, Georgie traveled with him to festivals and performances throughout the Midwest. The bluegrass community became an extended family, and many of those friendships endured for decades.

 After Mark was born in 1968, Georgie chose to become a homemaker, devoting her time to raising their son while supporting Ed throughout his career and the interests they shared.

 As Mark established his career and made his home in Texas, Georgie and Ed enjoyed traveling throughout all 50 United States and abroad, visiting England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, and many other destinations. One of the highlights of their travels was celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary while on a Baltic cruise.

 Rachel's birth in 2007, followed by Kian's in 2009, marked the beginning of a new chapter for Georgie and Ed as grandparents. Following Ed's passing in 2021, Georgie moved to McKinney, Texas, where she spent her remaining years close to Mark, Treta, Rachel, and Kian. She enjoyed being part of their everyday lives, celebrating milestones, and watching them grow.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, Kermit and Mary Jane (Hosman) Whitsell, and by her husband, Virgil “Ed” Edward Sellers, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage. 

She is survived by her son, Mark Edward Sellers, of Anna, Texas; Treta McCreless, formerly Sellers, of McKinney, Texas; her granddaughter, Rachel Sellers; her grandson, Kian Sellers; her brother, Richard "Rick" Whitsell and his wife, Nancy, of Smithville, Missouri; and her nephews, Franklin “Frank” Whitsell and John Whitsell and his wife, Marjorie.

 A celebration of Georgie's life will be held for family and close friends on Friday, August 7, 2026, followed by a private committal service on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Greenlawn Cemetery in Plattsburg, Missouri, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Ed.
