Dorothy Lee Jones 95 of Blue Springs formally of Plattsburg died Saturday May 18, 2019 at a Cameron Missouri Health Care Center. Dorothy was born on July 4, 1923, to Clyde and Mary (Clutter) Knox, in Springfield MO. She was the fourth of nine children who grew up in Willard, MO.
On November 20. 1943, Dorothy married Jefferson Allan (J.A.) Jones, and moved to his family farm (homesteaded in 1834) south of Plattsburg, MO. They shared a loving relationship and bore three children during their 63 years of marriage. J.A. preceded her in death on September 25, 2006.
Dorothy was a Nurse's Aide at Smithville Hospital for 23 years. She was a longtime member of the Atchison Homemakers' Club, and a life member of the Plattsburg United Methodist Church. She loved to cook and bake; her cinnamon rolls were fantastic. In her last years, she lived with her daughter Carolyn, in Blue Springs, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lorraine Drury, Mary Bilyeu, Lucille Bassinger, and Juanita Chaffin; brothers Norman Knox and Kenneth Knox; and grandson Michael Gilliland.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Mary Gilliland (Ed) of Plattsburg, Jerry Jones (Mary) of Kansas City, and Carolyn Brown of Blue Springs; grandchildren Greg Gilliland (Cynthia), Josh Jones, Jeremy Redhair and Bill Brown, Jr.; great grandchildren Dak and Dani Rose Gilliland and Kaesen Jones; Brother Johnny Knox, and sister Patricia Gillespie; Niece Linda Merkling (Jeff) ; great nephew Bradley Merkling and many other relatives.
Healing farewell services will be held 11:00AM Thursday May 23, 2019 at the Broadway United Methodist Church Plattsburg. Interment in the Green Lawn Cemetery Plattsburg. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The family suggests memorial gifts to the Church or the Plattsburg Senior Center.
