IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ann
Vanderau
December 29, 2021
Anna Rachel Beckner Vanderau moved to her farm in Plattsburg, MO, in 1940, from her home in Nebraska, with her new husband, HC Vanderau, and her dowry of two mules, one cow and one hog. They raised three children, Shirley, Roberta, and Fred on the farm.
Ann was very active in her churches, first the Brethren Church and later the Methodist Church in Plattsburg. She was also active in many women's groups, including the women's fellowships of both churches, the Senior Center, Reading Circle, Prairie Cottage Extension Club, bowling until the age of 90, and quilting groups. Her quilts were works of art, showcasing the tiniest, most even stitches of any quilter. Her volunteer efforts were many, including delivering Meals on Wheels, the Methodist Festival of Sharing, and church and funeral meals. She was always happy to furnish fresh flowers form her garden for church services every Sunday.
She is survived by her three children, Shirley Bickel of Sterling, CO, Roberta O'Connor of Leavenworth, KS, and Fred Vanderau of Plattsburg, MO, and their extensive families, including several of her great-great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the designated memorial for Ann is donations to the Broadway United Methodist Church (301 W. Broadway, Plattsburg, MO 64477) kitchen project, where she spent many hours cooking for others.
